Hello, I am Karen Lane. I was born in Market Weighton, well actually Beverley Westwood Hospital, and went to Mount Pleasant and the Secondary School.
My Mum was a Secretary at Europower and Dad was a Computer Manager at BAE. I went to Askham Bryan College for 3 years to study an OND in Amenity Horticulture and then spent the next 10 years between London, Cambridge and the Lake District. I returned in 1991 and worked at Stockton Hall as a therapist after gaining a post graduate diploma at Coventry University in Horticultural therapy and then went on to be the supervisor for Continental Landscapes central Hull Council contract. In 2003 I transferred to the Wokingham contract where I met Fred and a surprise came along, we named him Mark after my Dad.
We returned to Market Weighton as I had loved growing up here and I still had my house here and I set about looking for work, hence I am now Market Organiser. I know... I did apply for a part time post helping Terry but I could not manage all the hours working around Mark's school so they suggested this position; it isn't so different we do have plant stalls and everyone is very friendly. We are trying to build up both markets and encourage local people to be part of this ancient rite either as a customer or seller. We hope to have a new cake stall and vegetable stall for the next Local Producers Market and a board, to be situated near the Red Lion, to let people know what stalls are at the Friday Market. It is hoped Vixen 101 will give out regular updates. If you have any suggestions or would like a stall please let me know. Hobbies - oh well you can all hear one of them on a Wednesday and Sunday - yes I love ringing those tower bells. Caving and motorbikes are on hold at the moment.
